Description

Samarium(III) chloride, also known as samarium trichloride, is an inorganic compound of samarium and chloride. It is a pale yellow solid that rapidly absorbs water to form a hexahydrate, SmCl3.6H2O. The compound has few practical applications but is used in laboratories for research on new compounds of samarium.

Application

S 1175 (OTTO) Samarium (III) chloride, puriss, 99.99% Cas 10361-82-7 - used as a starting point for the preparation of other samarium salts. It is used as infrares absorbing glass, lasers, color television phosphors, magnets, microwave filters. It is used as catalyst in cracking crude petroleum and used as an alloy with cobalt for magnets. It is used as neutron capture masers and have applications in nuclear industry.
