Ticarcillin is an inhibitor of bacterial cell wall synthesis. It inhibits the crosslinking of peptidoglycan by binding and inactivating of transpeptidases.

Ticarcillin is a semisynthetic antibiotic with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. It is commonly used in combination with clavulanate in order to improve it′s efficacy.
