Ethyl Violet is an organic compound of chemical formula C31H42N3Cl, molecular weight 492.2 a dye which is used as an organic dye and pH indicator with turning range in pH from 0.0 to 2 , 4, when she turns from yellow to blue. It is classified with the CAS number 2390-59-2.

E 1667 (OTTO) Ethyl violet Cas 2390-59-2 - used to stain pancreatic tissue and elastin, in the detection of gram negative bacteria, and as a reagent for the extractive-spectrophotometric determination of anionic surfactants. Ethyl violet induces mitochondrial permeability. E 1667 (OTTO) Ethyl violet Cas 2390-59-2 - used in the extraction and spectrophotometric determination of copper. Along with the anionic dye zincon, ethyl violet is used in counterion dye of proteins in SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
